Ontario County Public Health: 4 people died Wednesday because of COVID-19

Daily Messenger - 12/30/2020

HOPEWELL — Four people died Dec. 30 as a result of COVID-19, and Ontario County Public Health is reporting 113 new cases today.

That brings the total of people who have died to 60 since the start of the pandemic, health officials said. One person who died got the disease in the community while three others were in long-term care, officials said.

Since the start of the pandemic, 3,191 Ontario County residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Of the new cases, 111 were community-acquired and two were in long-term care.

Many of the cases are related current positives, school-age children, household contacts, assisted living and congregant care communities, community cases, several unknown exposures and many that are under investigation.

There are 717 COVID-19 positive people who are being isolated, monitored and are checked on daily by public health staff. This is in addition to 1,163 mandatory quarantines (contacts of positive cases) that are also being monitored and contacted daily (totaling 1,913 in the isolation and quarantine category).

There were 565 negative tests, although tests from a drive-thru event Wednesday will be placed in the state Department of Health data system Thursday. So these numbers do not reflect the drive-thru event as of yet.

There were 1,163 registered travelers, although health officials said the total number continues to drop.

Forty COVID-19 positive residents are in the hospital and hospital admissions equaled the discharges, leaving the total the same as Tuesday.

To date, 2,385 recoveries have been reported since the start of the crisis, with 63 new recoveries today.
