COVID-19 in Ocean County: Town-by-town case list for January 1

Ocean County reported 414 new coronavirus cases on and 23 additional deaths attributed to the virus on New Year's Day, as the Shore welcomed in a new year with the same pandemic.

The new cases brought Ocean County's total COVID-19 case tally to 32,693 since March, according to the Ocean County Health Department.

The county has lost 1,290 residents to the virus.

Health officials pleaded with residents to keep New Year's celebrations small Thursday night to reduce the spread of the virus.

The entire state of New Jersey remains in a "high" level of COVID-19 activity, according to the latest report from the state Department of Health for the week ending Dec. 26. The central-east region that includes Ocean, Monmouth, Middlesex and Union counties has reported an average of 39 new cases daily per 100,000 residents and a test positivity rate approaching 11%, according to the report.

The town's population estimate is included for context in parentheses, followed by the tally of COVID-19 cases in that municipality since March and finally the change in the number of reported cases from the previous day. The figures include all those who have tested positive since March, including those who have recovered.

Death toll

Ocean County: 1,268

The list below represents the number of deaths since March attributed to COVID-19 in Ocean County by municipality as well as the change in the death toll from the previous day. In communities where there have been fewer than five deaths from the virus, the health department uses <5 to protect the privacy of the deceased and their families.

An increase or decrease in the death toll of any municipality may be the result of initial confusion over a patient’s home address. An increase in the number does not necessarily reflect a total rise in the number of deaths from the day before.
