Here's Haywood's COVID-19 update for Wednesday, Jan. 6

Jan. 6—By the numbers

Since the first of the year, there have been 134 positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Haywood County.

That brings the number in isolation to 295 and the case numbers for the past seven days to 482. That brings the entire number of positive cases in Haywood to 2,370.

Thanks to early readers of yesterday's update who caught an error in the covid numbers. It allowed an early correction to reflect that the initial number was the total tested, and allowed us to add the correct number of positive cases.

Register for vaccine

As of Wednesday, both a call center and website where individuals age 75 and above can preregister for a vaccine. will be open.

Not out of the woods yet

Despite vaccines becoming available to select groups in Haywood, public health officials warn that that with cases continuing to climb, it is no time to stop practicing the COVID safety guidelines — washing hands, wearing a mask and staying at least 6 feet apart.
