Weis Markets revises mask policy for shoppers and employees

Patriot-News - 5/19/2021

Weis Markets joins a growing list of retailers announcing revised mask policies.

The Sunbury chain said effective today shoppers who are fully vaccinated no longer will need to wear face coverings.

The decision comes following new guidance issued last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which states fully vaccinated people do not have to wear masks in most places including crowded outdoor events.

Last week, Weis said it was keeping its mask policy in place as it evaluated the updated guidance.

Chain spokesman Dennis Curtin said in store locations where state and local governments have adopted the CDC guidance, Weis Markets will also follow the guidelines.

The revised mask requirements, he said apply to individuals who enter the stores, including customers and associates, with the exception of pharmacy associates. Masks continue to be required in healthcare settings such as pharmacies where immunizations are administered, Curtin said.

This week, several supermarket chains with stores in central Pa., including Giant, Karns Foods and Wegmans, have announced revised mask policies for fully vaccinated shoppers.
