Date and time changes for Friday's Carlsbad High athletics

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic several Carlsbad High School sporting events scheduled for Friday were changed.

Wrestling

Carlsbad will still head to Roswell for the district championship tournament on Friday, only at later time in the day. Originally scheduled for a 3 p.m. start, the tournament will begin at 6 p.m. at the Roswell High gymnasium. The Cavemen have a chance to repeat as district champions. The 3A and 4A state tournament will take place May 27 and the 5A and entire girls tournament is scheduled for May 29 at the Rio Rancho Events Center.

Softball

Carlsbad (5-1) and Artesia (7-0) were scheduled to face off Friday evening in their second game of the season. Another possible COVID-19 outbreak within the Cavegirls team has forced the game to be postponed until May 25 at 6 p.m. The game will take place in Artesia at the Mack Chase Athletic Complex. Carlsbad had to cancel one previous game and has not played a game since sweeping Onate in a doubleheader on May 8.

Baseball

The Cavemen and the Bulldogs will meet on the diamond for the only time this season on the diamond this Friday. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. but due to possible inclement weather the varsity game has been moved to a 5:30 p.m. start with the junior varsity game to follow. The game will still take place on Carlsbad's campus.
