Coronavirus tracker: California reported 587 new cases and 10 new deaths as of May 23

May 24—In California, 587 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Sunday, May 23, according to end-of-day totals on public health websites, bringing the total number of cases so far to 3,749,729.

There were 10 new deaths reported statewide Monday for a total of 62,599 people who have died from COVID-19.

The state reported 43 fewer hospitalizations from the previous day, decreasing the total hospitalizations of those infected with the coronavirus to 1,513.

According to the California Department of Public Health, 35.7 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state and 40.9% of residents are now fully vaccinated.
