Ontario County Public Health: 45 new COVID-19 cases Aug. 31

HOPEWELL — Ontario County Public Health is reporting 45 new COVID-19 community cases Aug. 31.

Twelve of the new cases Tuesday were from Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, while 21 cases were in vaccinated people.

The cases today bring the total of cases to 7,979 since the start of the pandemic; 113 people have died and 7,655 people have recovered.

Ontario County Public Health reported 170 new COVID-19 cases during the week of Aug. 24 to Aug. 30, much higher than the 111 and 110 cases reported in the two weeks prior.

This was the highest total since 177 cases were reported the week of April 13-19, although lower than the 243 cases reported April 6-12.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, 88 new cases had been reported this week.

Ontario County is now in the High category for transmission, which is the highest level, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
