COVID-19: Weld County case, testing and outbreak data for the week of Jan. 19

Jan. 20—Weld County officials reported 5,275 new COVID-19 cases in the past week, bringing the county's total to 71,583 cases since the pandemic began.

The actual number of cases could be higher, as a possible lag in case reporting could mean an undercount of cases, according to the county.

On Jan. 14, Weld reported the most cases it has reported in a single day during the pandemic, 1,011.

The county's one-week average positive test rate is 30.68%, up from 29.77% a week ago. In the Greeley area, that rate is 28.53%, the lowest in the county. Southwest Weld continues to have the highest rate in the county, 34.24%.

There are 310 COVID-19 patients at Weld regional hospitals, up from 292 a week ago. Of those patients, 71 are in county hospitals. There are 41 hospital beds and six ICU beds available in the region. Three of those hospital beds and one of those ICU beds are in the county.

About 29.4% of patients in regional hospitals are COVID-19 patients. Within the county, that rate is 41.6%. Both rates are at the highest they've been since the start of the pandemic.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported 45 active outbreaks this week in Weld County:

1. Grace Pointe Continuing Care Senior Campus — Skilled Nursing: Two resident cases and eight staff cases. Outbreak reported Tuesday.

2. Kinnick Center RTF: Two resident cases. Outbreak reported Monday.

3. Platteville Elementary School: Seven student cases. Outbreak reported Jan. 13.

4. Garden Square at Westlake: One resident case and three staff cases. Outbreak reported Jan. 13.

5. Garden Square of Greeley: Five staff cases. Outbreak reported Jan. 12.

6. Maxwell Center Assisted Living Residence: Four resident cases and one staff case. Outbreak reported Jan. 12.

7. Ashley Manor Evans 2: Two staff cases. Outbreak reported Jan. 12.

37. Frederick High School: 69 student cases and two staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 17. No new cases since the week of Dec. 8.

38. Lochbuie Elementary School: 17 student cases and three staff cases. Outbreak reported Nov. 22. No new cases since the week of Dec. 8.

39. Firestone Charter Academy: 45 student cases and six staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 30. No new cases since the week of Nov. 24.

40. Greeley Central High School: 41 student cases and seven staff cases. Outbreak reported Nov. 19. No new cases since the week of Nov. 24.

41. Aspen Ridge Preparatory School: 29 student cases and four staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 17. No new cases since the week of Nov. 10.

42. Columbine Commons Assisted Living: 17 resident cases and 14 staff cases. Four resident deaths. Outbreak reported Oct. 26.

43. Grandview Elementary School: 31 student cases and three staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 2. No new cases since the week of Oct. 13.

44. Jefferson High School: Seven student cases and three staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 2. No new cases since the week of Oct. 13.

45. Greeley West High School: 28 student cases and two staff cases. Outbreak reported Sept. 21. No new cases since the week of Sept. 29.

Greeley-Evans School District 6 reported 21 students and no adults in quarantine as of Thursday. Meeker Elementary, Shawsheen Elementary, Jefferson High, Bella Romero Academy, University High, Greeley Central High, Jefferson Junior and University Schools have temporarily switched to remote learning.

There have been 559 Weld residents who died due to COVID-19, an increase of one in the past week, according to county data. The state reported 615 deaths among people with the virus in Weld, an increase of 11 in the past week. The state reported nine new deaths due to COVID-19 in Weld, for a total of 513.

Nearly all new cases can be attributed to the omicron variant, which has rapidly replaced the delta variant in Colorado, according to the state.

The state's one-week average positivity rate is 26.39%, according to state data. Johns Hopkins University reports the national positivity rate is 24.6%.

Weld County reported Jan. 14 that 17,657 residents have had their first doses of two-part COVID-19 vaccines, and 182,114 residents, 59.8% of the 5-and-up population, are fully vaccinated. Booster vaccines have been administered to 68,584 people in the county.

The state reports 4,299,963 people in the state have been immunized with one dose, and 3,865,298 people, 71.12% of the 5-and-up population, have been fully immunized. A total of 1,779,101 people have received additional doses.
