Health Dept. cites four Coast restaurants, three of them for toxic substance issues

Sep. 28—Four restaurants in South Mississippi were cited in the past three weeks after inspectors from the state Health Department found critical violations.

Those restaurants cited are:

Fresh Vietnamese Bistro at 3840 Promenade Parkway in D'Iberville was inspected Sept. 26 for a permit and was cited for:

— Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

— Improper cold holding temperatures

Both were repeat offenses.

Corrected during the inspection were:

— Person in charge who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

— Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

— Food separated and protected

— Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

This was the first C since the restaurant opened in 2020

Subway at 11240 U.S. 49 in Gulfport was inspected for a permit on Sept. 19 and was cited for:

— No certified manager

— Improper cold holding temperatures.

Corrected during the inspection were:

— Person in charge who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

— Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized.

The sandwich shop also had a C in October 2021. This is the second C since 2011.

Fat Baby and Alise's at 1757 Popp's Ferry Road, Biloxi had a scheduled inspection on Sept. 14 and received its first C for not having food separated and protected.

Corrected during the inspection were:

— Hands cleaned and properly washed

— Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

— Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

At a follow-up inspection on Sept. 26, all violations were corrected and the restaurant received a B.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit at 11240 U.S. 49 in Gulfport had a scheduled inspection on Sept. 8 and was given a C. During a corrective follow-up inspection on Sept. 13 the restaurant was cited for:

— Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

— Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

Corrected during the inspection were: Posting the last inspection report and proper cold holding temperatures

All violations were corrected and the restaurant was given a B following an inspection on Sept. 22

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated "A" if they pass the health department inspection, "B" if violations are corrected during the inspection, and "C" if the violations are critical.

Since Sept. 9, inspectors graded 168 restaurants in South Mississippi with an A and 29 with a B.
