Sausage products including salami, recalled because they may be contaminated with listeria

Patriot-News - 2/1/2023

A Rhode Island company has recalled 52,914 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage products that have the potential to be contaminated with listeria.

The products were shipped to retailers nationwide from Dec. 23, 2022, to Jan. 17, 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture'sFood Safety and Inspection Service.

The recall was initiated by Daniele International LLC, of Mapleville, Rhode Island.

Recalled are:

All of the recalled products have the establishment number "EST. 54 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

FSIS said it "discovered the problem during routine inspection activities where Listeria monocytogenes was found on surfaces in which the product came into contact."

Eating food that is contaminated with listeria can cause listeriosis, "a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected."

Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An infection can spread beyond the gastrointestinal tract and cause life-threatening situations.

FSIS said people who bought the recalled products should throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
