Provides public areas to be used as "cooling centers" during times of extreme heat. An emergency plan is activated when the heat index reaches 95 degrees for more than two consecutive days and is suspended when it falls below that threshold.

High-risk groups such as adults age 55 and older, children under the age of five and people with chronic illness are urged to stay inside air-conditioned buildings between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., the hottest part of the day.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE: If libraries, community, or recreation centers are closed, the city is recommending people cool off in malls or other public places that are open. Please note that there will be limits on the number of people allowed in and all will be asked to wear face coverings/masks.
