--- DO IT YOURSELF ENTRY --------- PURPOSE: To create a do-it-yourself (DIY) assistive pan holder for individuals with upper extremity or grasping disabilities or the use of only one hand. The DIY assistive pan holder is designed to be a low-cost alternative for individuals with disabilities who cook. To begin, prepare three suction cups. If top section (grip) of a suction cup is round, use an Exacto knife to make the sides flat so that a lateral hole can be drilled through the suction cup's grip that is large enough for a thick wire to go through. Then bend a 30-inch piece of 10-gauge wire to form an "M" shape, leaving 3-inch horizontal sections on each side and making each section of the "M" 6 inches long. Pass the wire through the holes in the three previously drilled suction cups, one suction cup should be at the middle of the “M” shape with the other two attached to each end. When the divice is attached to a cooktop or range adjacent to a burner, the pan's handle can be placed in the middle of the "M" to stop it from moving. MATERIALS: 3 suction cups and 30 inch 10 gauge wire. TOOLS: Exacto knife and drill. SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic craft ability. AUTHOR: Nelson_Yepez.
