---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of an inexpensive writing aid for individuals with hand injuries, congenital malformations, or arthritis to assist with holding a pen or pencil when writing. The Doodle Bug is a sturdy and child-friendly device with a wooden base covered with felt on one side; a hole in which to place a pen, pencil, or crayon; and a ball-bearing caster attached to the bottom of the wooden base allowing for easy mobility. The writing implement can be easily and quickly changed out as desired. The Doodle Bug is designed to be held with the felt side facing up. A small motion enables the user to lift the pen, pencil, or crayon between strokes and letters. The Doodle Bug was originally created in a child-friendly ladybug design but its appearance can be adapted according to the user's preferences and personal tastes. The total cost for the device is slightly less than $4.00.
