---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of an electric walking aid for individuals with mobility and balance disabilities. Murata Manufacturing, inspired by previous standalone robot designs, has created a mobility aid that is similar to Segway technology. Like a Segway, this walking aid is able to maintain its balance and stand upright on its own with an extra set of wheels for additional security. Unlike traditional walkers, this electronic walking aid requires virtually no effort to push. It is equipped with built-in sensors that detect how much the user's body is tilted and how fast or slow the device should move in order to keep up with the user. The device is powerful enough to assist the user in carrying additional items such as luggage or groceries. AUTHOR: Donald Melanson.
