DIY Multi-Sensory Color Wheel Game

The Multi-Sensory Color Wheel Game can be used to teach kids with limited vision colors. The game includes a spin board with different colors as well as clothespins that correlate with the board. The colors can be identified in many ways through color, print, braille and a tactile element. Each clothespin must match the color, print, braille, and tactile object also used on the color wheel. The object of the game is to match up the clothespin with all on the colors on the board and the get rid of the clothespins as soon as possible.

Technical Specifications: 

Materials: Thick cardboard, 24 clothes pins, scissors, glue, small tactile items, paperclips, braille labels, markers, tape. Optional: puff paint or embroidery floss.

Directions:

  1. Either print out or designed a color wheel using paint, crayons, or other. Cut out the color wheel and glue it on the cardboard. Cut the cardboard to size. Print out or color an arrow. Cut out the arrow from the cardboard using the template.
  2. Open up a large paperclip then fold it in half. Leave a loop at the top of the paperclip so that the arrow will not fall off.
  3. Using scissors or a sharp knife. Poke a hole in the arrow and in the center of the wheel. Place the paperclip through the two holes so that the arrow is now attached to the wheel, then bend the back of the paperclip and tape to the back of the wheel to create the spinner.
  4. For the clothespins markers can be used to color each pin. Add brail labels to the spinner and the clothespins corresponding to their color.
  5. For the small tactile item any small household item can be used. Examples include puffy, foam stickers, cotton balls (colored to match), uncooked macaroni, felt, pompoms, and pipe cleaners.
