ScripTalk is a voice output medication label reader designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. It is a portable, handheld electronic device that reads the information contained in the memory of a RFID microchip embedded within the paper label of a pill bottle and speaks that information aloud for the user. ScripTalk is part of a larger system that includes a pharmacy label printer/programmer. When the user of a ScripTalk reader submits a prescription to a pharmacy, the pharmacy uses ScripTalk software and a programming unit to encode the RFID smart label with the printed label information including the patient's name, drug name, dosage, general instructions, warnings, prescription number, the doctor's name, and the pharmacy telephone number. The information is spoken by a voice synthesizer when the label is held within an inch of the ScripTalk reader. The user can navigate the different fields of information to repeat or skip data. ScripTalk patient software also allows the user to access the information in an electronic file format, which can then be converted to Braille or Large Print via a computer and/or Braille display. Other features include an audible low battery indicator, a choice of English or Spanish voice output, tactile buttons that respond with tones or synthesized speech when pressed, an earphone jack for added privacy or amplification, and voice output volume, speed, and pitch control. ScripTalk also features a Spell-It mode option that will spell any needed data such as hard to understand prescription names. OPTIONS: ScripTalk Travel Case with insulated pouches for carrying medicines and a pouch for the ScripTalk station. POWER: Uses two rechargeable AA alkaline batteries, or an alternating current (AC/DC) wall transformer.
