County favors developers over residents

Palm Beach Post - 12/6/2021

I read with interest the Nov. 23The Palm Beach Post article on the new high-end development, Panther National. As the residents of Lucerne Lakes have learned, predatory developers may come along and wish to build on the golf course. Don't look to the county for protection. Despite strongly written covenants in the deeds prohibiting development, the Palm Beach County Planning and Zoning Commission and the County Commission are all too eager to approve the development. The county will fail to protect you and your home from these developers. You will be forced to defend yourself in civil courts, and pray that the courts recognize the covenants of the deeds. The cost is not only the thousands of dollars for the lawyers and court fees but years of uncertainty as your home is threatened. Shame on these county commissioners.

Regarding your Season To Share article about U.S. Army veteran Reginald Ware, on Dec.1, it stated that Mr. Ware is in dire need of dental work so that he can pursue his dream of applying for a cross-country truck driver position. Mr. Ware stated that he needs $7,800 worth of dental work in order to "have a better outlook for my life. I'm ready to get back out there" Wouldn't it be wonderful if a group of dentists donated their resources and professional abilities by helping Mr. Ware regain his dignity and not feel the pain of rejection because of how he perceives the outside world looks at him. Mr. Ware chose to make his story public and I pray that the public will make his dream come true.

There's so much being written about this $5,000 bonus to have cops move to Florida. People talk about cops not being vaccinated but I wonder what kind of cops will be moving here. What are we getting? Are these the guys nobody else wants because they have dozens of complaints in their file? Are they drug-tested or do they have mental issues? I just hope we don't have loose cannons walking around with guns and tasers.

Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn't care about vaccinated first responders but should I, if I get stopped for a traffic violation? I just don't understand why a cop who got vaccinated in the military doesn't think it's a good idea now. I guess there were no military unions around to dictate things. Do we actually need more cops? Right now we have 800,000 law enforcement people in this country and crime is worse than ever. So, maybe it's the quality, not the quantity, we should be worried about. There is a perception that more cops mean more safety but there's no statistic to back that up. I think DeSantis feels as long as it carries a gun and a taser, we have everything we need.

With some bad news in the headlines lately, it was so uplifting to read Wendy Rhodes excellent review — plus pictures — of The Rolling Stones in the Sunday Accent. I was there. Wendy was 100% on point, she nailed it.
