‘I wish her well': Trump sends regards to Ghislaine Maxwell, accused associate of Jeffrey Epstein

The New York Daily News - 7/22/2020

President Trump raised eyebrows on Tuesday as he sent his best regards to Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned associate of Jeffrey Epstein who’s alleged to have procured dozens of underage girls for the late pedophile’s sick sexual schemes.

Trump offered the peculiar token of support for Maxwell after a reporter asked during an unrelated White House briefing if he was concerned that the alleged Epstein madame has dirt on powerful men, such as himself.

“I haven’t really been following it too much,” Trump began. “I wish her well, frankly. I met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach. I wish her well, whatever it is.”

Maxwell is currently imprisoned at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on charges that she supplied Epstein with a steady stream of young girls for him to abuse at his palatial estates in Florida, New York, France and the Caribbean. The 58-year-old Epstein pal, who’s likely to spend decades in prison if convicted, is also accused of participating in some of the abuse.

Over the years, Trump has appeared in a number of pictures with Maxwell and Epstein, including at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla.

Maxwell was one of Epstein’s closest associates, and rumors have swirled that she could provide federal prosecutors in New York with dirt on various other powerful men now that she’s been charged.

Trump critics speculated that the president’s well wishes for Maxwell could be a coded message for her to keep quiet.

“Sir, you just sent a signal to Ghislaine Maxwell. And we ALL know why,” E. Jean Carroll, an author who has accused Trump of rape, tweeted along with a photo of the president and First Lady Melania Trump together with Epstein and Maxwell at Mar-a-Lago.
