Doctor who worked in school districts to plead guilty to sexual assault, corruption of minors: court records

Patriot-News - 11/12/2020

A Lancaster County doctor will plead guilty Thursday to molesting patients at local school districts and a family practice, according to online court records.

The records show Dr. William R. Vollmar is scheduled to enter a guilty plea at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Dennis E. Reinaker.

Vollmar, 57, has faced a slew of charges in response to several assault allegations, including: sexual contact with a student in a school, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and indecent assault. He was also charged with sexual assault, corruption of minors, and indecent assault stemming from an incident on Aug. 1, 2015, according to court records.

Authorities say Vollmar, who specializes in sports medicine, sexually assaulted a student in a district where he was contracted to provide medical treatment. The 57-year-old was employed by a number of districts in Dauphin and Lancaster counties, as well as Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

One man said Vollmar inappropriately touched him last year during an after-hours appointment for an ankle injury at Diamantoni and Associates Family Practice. Stephen G. Diamantoni is the Lancaster County coroner.

Vollmar was a practicing physician at that practice from 1992 until 2019, when he abruptly retired in light of the sexual abuse allegations.

The 57-year-old later admitted to the assault and said it was something he was “not very proud of in terms of inappropriate relationship between a physician and patient,” according to a criminal complaint that charged him with a misdemeanor count of indecent assault without the consent of the other.

A second man later come forward and said Vollmar abused him when he was 13 years old.

Vollmar had contracts with Middletown Area School District, Lampeter-Strasburg School District, Pequea Valley School District, Lancaster Country Day School, Conestoga Valley School District, Octorara Area School District and Solanco School District.

The case against Vollmar started in the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office before moving to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
