Reported domestic violence in Sacramento leads to suspect's arrest, school lockdowns

Sacramento Bee - 1/4/2022

Jan. 4—A report of a domestic violence assault at a Sacramento home Tuesday morning and the subsequent search for the suspect prompted brief precautionary lockdowns at two nearby schools.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to a home in the 5600 block of James Way, just south of Fruitridge Road and west of 24th Street in the Mangan Park neighborhood. There was report of a domestic violence assault, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Later in the morning, officers were conducting follow-up and trying to speak to the domestic violence suspect at a home in the area, police said.

Shortly before 10 a.m., a Police Department helicopter was in the Mangan Park neighborhood assisting officers on the ground with a suspect "possibly involved in a domestic violence and armed with a gun," according to police helicopter notifications posted online.

Police said the officers established contact with the suspect who walked out of the home on his own. He was then arrested on suspicion of domestic violence assault. The Police Department had not released the suspect's name.

There was a brief shelter-in-place advisory enacted for neighboring homes as officers tried to contact the suspect.

A few blocks north of the reported domestic violence incident, Leonardo da Vinci School and Hollywood Park Elementary School were placed on precautionary lockdowns.

The lockdown was "due to a neighborhood issue," Leonardo da Vinci School Principal Devon Davis wrote in a note to students' families shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday. By 11:30 a.m., the lockdowns at both schools had been lifted.
