'I am going to lose my kids': Hobart man charged with beating, sexually assaulting woman

Post-Tribune - 5/23/2023

May 23—A Hobart man is in jail after he was charged Monday with beating and sexually assaulting a woman over a two-day ordeal.

Jeremiah Good, 41, was charged Monday with two counts of rape, three counts of criminal confinement, one count of intimidation, two counts of domestic battery, one count each of strangulation and sexual battery and one misdemeanor.

He is in custody at the Lake County Jail, held on a $10,000 cash bond. Court records do not yet show a lawyer.

The victim told police Good had "relapsed," started drinking. He said she was "lying" and a "cheater," according to the affidavit.

Good told her on May 18 to "get naked" and "demanded" she perform a sex act, or he would beat her, charges allege.

He started punching her in the back of the head, then sexually assaulted her.

Good continued to beat and started strangling her. The woman said she had to pry his hands off her neck.

He then told her to get on her knees in the shower so he could "urinate" on her. The woman refused and he started punching her and slamming her head against the shower wall.

There was "blood everywhere," which he made her clean up. At some point, he allegedly burned her back and her thigh twice with a cigarette.

He threatened to kill her, her kids, her family and responding cops if she called the police.

Her "breaking point" was when Good threatened to abuse the children, the affidavit alleges.

The woman convinced him to let her take the kids to a Family Express gas station, 4717 W. 61st Ave., where she called 911. Responding police officers saw bruises, swelling and dried blood by her ear.

Police went to their Hobart home. No one responded. Good came to the door after police called his cell. He was arrested with restraints "double locked" and transported to Hobart City Jail. Cops took all the guns from a safe.

On the way, he appeared "friendly" with a cop, who didn't answer him.

"God, I'll never make that mistake again," he said. "Can you loosen these cuffs, bro?"

The woman told police they were together for about a decade and Good threatened to kill her in the past.

Good had threatened to hurt the kids if she didn't have sex with him. She was taken to another hospital for a rape kit.

Good forced the woman in December to have the girls come to their bedroom to watch the couple have sex, court records state.

A Lake County Prosecutors' Office spokeswoman declined comment if Good could face further charges.

At the Hobart Police Station, Good declined to talk with a detective. As he was led to a cell, he looked back.

"I am going to lose my kids," he said.
