Sex offender to be relocated to Keno

Herald and News - 2/27/2017

The town of Keno has been notified that a Level 3 sex offender will soon be relocated there, according to Klamath County Community Corrections Director Kiki Parker-Rose.

“We went door-to-door with fliers last week and had a community meeting in Keno right after that to answer questions,” Parker-Rose said. “A level 3 means he is a high-risk offender and it directs us to notify the community.”

It is the first time in about five years that such notification has been done in the Klamath County. The county has 523 registered sex offenders living here, and of that, about 100 remain on some sort of parole restrictions.

Kirkland Enid Hampton, 55, is originally from Klamath County. State law requires that for at least the first six months of his probation, he must return to the county where the offenses took place. He can petition to move after that.

Hampton is on probation for felony public indecency and DUII and has a string of prior convictions such as sex abuse III, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, failure to register as a sex offender, menacing, domestic violence and attempted assault.

His victims were both male and female ranging in ages from children to adults.

Hampton is restricted in having any contact with persons under age 18 and from being in places where minors are likely to congregate, such as playgrounds, schools, etc.

Hampton is not in the Keno community yet. He was picked up last Saturday for driving while his license was suspended and is in jail for that and a parole violation. He is likely to be there for another 60 days.

“Obviously there is some unease in the community,” Parker-Rose said. “When something like this is brought to the forefront, it is difficult for everyone involved. But, he has served his time in prison and is on post-prison supervision.”

Corrections also handed out fliers on how parents can talk to their children about sex about and sex offenders. The fliers are attached to this story online.
