Homeboy Industries founder to discuss gang intervention
The Rev. Gregory Boyle, founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, will speak at 7 p.m.March 3 at Asbury First Methodist Church, 1050 East Ave., Rochester.
Homeboy Industries is a gang intervention, rehabilitation and reentry program. Boyle founded the organization 20 years ago in an economically deprived area of Los Angeles.
The nonprofit employs and trains former gang members in a range of social enterprises that build real world skills. It has become a model for other organizations and cities. Homeboy Bakery was named one of Los Angeles’ 10 best bakeries in September 2016.
Boyle gives 200 lectures a year. He has written a book, “Tattoos on the Heart,” about his experiences.
